Flute Profiles:

The 4 different types of flutes have a particularly useful function and choosing the right flute often depends on the product you want to pack.
Flutes are categorized by size into what are known as ‘flute profiles’, ranging from A-flute (the largest) down to smaller microflutes. Larger flutes offer superior vertical compression strength and cushioning, making them ideal for protective packaging. In contrast, smaller flutes provide better structural integrity and are preferred mostly for retail packaging.
3 ply corrugated boards consist of top and bottom linerboards and a flute medium. Generally known as a Single Wall corrugated board.
5 ply boards are known as Double Wall with 3 linerboards and 2 flute mediums. 5 ply boards can come in a variety of combinations from A, B, C and E flutes depending on the requirements of product packaging.
7 ply boards are known as Tripple Wall. Constructed with three fluted mediums and four linerboards, these boards deliver exceptional strength and durability. They are ideal for transporting extremely heavy or delicate items that require the highest level of protection. The common flute combinations for 7 ply are AAC, BAC, and CAC in various sequences.
